The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Katsina State Internal Revenue Service (KSIRS), Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi, has resigned from his position.
In a formal letter addressed to the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, Professor Mashi notified the governor of his decision to step down from the role.
The resignation letter, dated January 2026, indicated that the appointment was originally conveyed to him through an official letter referenced S/SGKT/002/T/212 dated January 11, 2024.
Professor Mashi explained that his decision to resign was based on his conviction that he should step aside after finding it difficult to effectively lead the Governing Board in carrying out its supervisory and oversight responsibilities over the State Internal Revenue Service.
He noted that the duties of the board are clearly stipulated in the Katsina State Revenue Administration (Codification and Consolidation) Law 2021, particularly Part II, Section 10(1)(a), which mandates the board to provide general policy guidelines and supervise the service in executing its statutory functions.
According to him, the board is expected to ensure proper policy direction and effective supervision of the activities of the revenue service in line with the provisions of the law.
Despite stepping down, Professor Mashi expressed deep appreciation to Governor Radda for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity given to serve the people of Katsina State in such an important capacity.
He said he remains grateful to the governor and wished the state government continued success in its efforts to strengthen revenue administration and development initiatives across the state.
Professor Mashi is a member of the Faculty of Geographical and Atmospheric Sciences, Department of Geography, University of Abuja.
He concluded the letter by extending his best wishes and warm regards to the governor and the government of Katsina State.
